The ruling follows a first-phase jury verdict that ordered Meta to pay USD 375 million in civil penalties after finding that the company knowingly contributed to harm to children’s mental health and concealed information concerning child sexual exploitation on its platforms.

Meta reportedly acknowledged “serious issues” and assured officials of continued action on deepfakes, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), bot accounts and synthetic content. Technical discussions are expected to continue for another three to four days.
