Canada Sets Six-Year Record in Deporting Indians

3,323 Indian nationals deported in the first six months of 2026; stricter immigration policies may put more Indians at risk of removal. Canada has deported 3,323 Indian nationals during the first six months of 2026, surpassing the deportation figures recorded in each of the previous six years and signalling a tougher approach towards immigration enforcement. According to data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the number of Indians deported in the first half of 2026 has already reached 88 per cent of the 3,779 Indian nationals deported during the entire year of 2025. Indians emerged as the largest nationality among people removed from Canada during the first six months of 2026, overtaking Mexican nationals, with 1,573 Mexicans deported during the same period. Over the past five years, Mexican nationals had recorded the highest number of deportations from Canada. CBSA data shows that 603 Indians were deported in 2021, followed by 786 in 2022, 1,132 in 2023 and 2,004 in 2024. Although the CBSA maintains a separate database detailing the reasons for deportations, it does not provide country-wise data for those reasons. Over the past five years, Mexico has ranked first in average deportations, while India has ranked second. A deportation order can bar an individual from returning to Canada for a specific period, ranging from one to five years. Indian nationals have faced deportation for reasons including non-compliance with immigration rules, visa overstays and visa fraud, as Canada continues to tighten its immigration system and increase removals each year.
