Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth over ₹8,941 crore to rejuvenate the Yamuna river in Delhi. The initiatives focus on expanding sewer networks, improving drainage systems and strengthening wastewater treatment facilities to reduce pollution. Shah said the BJP government was committed to cleaning and rejuvenating the Yamuna by May 2029. He added that the Centre and the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh had prepared coordinated, time-bound plans to tackle river pollution. The projects are also expected to improve drinking water facilities and expand sewer connectivity across Delhi. Shah criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of making excuses rather than resolving the pollution problem. He reiterated that restoring the Yamuna remained a firm commitment of the BJP government.
