India Strengthens 2036 Olympic Bid; Ahmedabad to Lead the Mission

New Delhi, July 9: India has unveiled an ambitious plan to host 29 international sporting events over the next two years as part of its campaign to secure the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympic Games. The initiative aims to showcase India's organisational capabilities, world-class sporting infrastructure, and readiness to host one of the world's biggest sporting events. Ahmedabad has been identified as the focal point of this mission. Having already secured the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the city is emerging as India's proposed host city for the 2036 Olympics. Several international competitions are expected to be organised in and around Ahmedabad to strengthen India's bid. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that hosting international events within the country will provide Indian athletes with greater exposure while also helping develop sports infrastructure, technical expertise, and event-management capabilities. With a growing number of successful international sporting events already hosted across the country, India is positioning itself as a strong contender to bring the Olympic Games to the nation for the first time in history.
